Abstract

This study aims to describe the process of gift-giving after final exams and analyze the dynamics involved in such gift-giving. Gift-giving after proposal seminars and green-table discussions has become increasingly popular among students, both past and present. The method used was a qualitative ethnographic approach, using in-depth interviews, participant observation, field notes, and documentation. The results reveal three stages in the gift-giving process among students in the Anthropology Education Study Program: giving, receiving, and reciprocating gifts. This practice has profound social significance and serves as a means to strengthen relationships between students. Gifts are not simply an expression of congratulations for achievements but also reflect solidarity and emotional support, fostering a culture of mutual respect within the academic community. However, reciprocity often creates pressure for students to reciprocate, which can increase psychological burdens and create tension in friendships. This gift-giving practice also demonstrates the strong influence of social culture among students. The form of gifts varies depending on the closeness of the relationship and the academic context, creating special moments that strengthen social bonds. Therefore, it is important to maintain sincerity in giving gifts so that they do not become a burden, but remain meaningful in strengthening solidarity among students
