Abstract

The development of artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly permeating daily lives, particularly in the field of communication. Therefore, the ethics of using artificial intelligence in the field of communication require further investigation. Looking at the importance of this matter, the author interested in researching more deeply regarding ethics about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of Communication Science through systematic literature review (SLR). This study aims to examine publications in reputable Indonesian communication science journals regarding the phenomenon of artificial intelligence and the ethics of its use. A systematic literature review was conducted on reputable communication science journals listed in the SINTA database. From a total of 10,478 journals in the SINTA database, a selection process was carried out using keywords "communication" and applying SINTA 2 and SINTA 3 filters. Result yielded 24 SINTA 2 and 43 SINTA 3 communication science journals. Across these 67 communication science journals, a total of 3,657 articles were published during 2023–2024. However, from all of the publications, only four representing 0.1% of the total contained "ethics" and "artificial intelligence" keywords. From four papers listed, one article was excluded in the subsequent qualitative analysis stage because it did not employ communication science methodologies. Consequently, the percentage dropped to 0.08%. In conclusion, there are very few publications addressing artificial intelligence and ethics within the scope of communication science studies in reputable communication science journal (SINTA 2 and SINTA 3) during 2023–2024 period. However, it is important to acknowledge the discussions surrounding ethical issues in the field of communication science. Findings reveal there is an emphasis in AI ethical issues about AI's capacity for data verification, its understanding of relevant ethical standards, and its accountability, particularly in journalism. As well as the negative social impact of job losses from AI adoption.
