AI Policy

PIJAR: Jurnal Pendidikan dan Pengajaran

1. Policy Statement

PIJAR: Jurnal Pendidikan dan Pengajaran recognizes the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in academic research, scholarly writing, and scientific publishing. The journal supports the responsible, ethical, and transparent use of AI tools, provided that their use does not compromise academic integrity, research originality, methodological rigor, or the credibility of scholarly publications.

This policy establishes guidelines for authors, editors, and reviewers to ensure that AI technologies are used appropriately throughout the manuscript preparation, submission, peer-review, and publication processes.

2. Use of AI by Authors

Authors may use AI-assisted technologies to support manuscript preparation, including language improvement, grammar correction, translation, literature organization, and other appropriate research-support activities.

Authors who use AI tools must ensure that:

  1. All information, arguments, data, references, and conclusions are accurate, relevant, and verifiable.

  2. AI-generated content is critically evaluated and reviewed by the authors before inclusion in the manuscript.

  3. The use of AI does not replace the authors' intellectual contribution, scholarly judgment, or responsibility for the research.

  4. The manuscript is original and complies with the journal's requirements concerning plagiarism, research ethics, and publication integrity.

  5. All research data, interpretations, and references are authentic and have not been fabricated or misrepresented through the use of AI.

AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot assume responsibility or accountability for scholarly work. Human authors remain fully responsible for the content of their manuscripts.

3. Disclosure of AI Use

Authors must disclose the use of generative AI tools when such tools have made a substantive contribution to manuscript development, including the generation of text, research analysis, interpretation, or other scholarly content.

The disclosure should identify the AI tool used and explain its purpose and contribution. The statement should be included in a dedicated section of the manuscript, preferably titled Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies.

Example of an AI disclosure statement:

"During the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used [name of AI tool] for [specific purpose]. The authors carefully reviewed, verified, and revised the AI-assisted content and accept full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the final manuscript."

Routine spelling, grammar checking, and basic language editing generally do not require disclosure unless otherwise specified by the journal.

4. Use of AI by Editors

Editors of PIJAR: Jurnal Pendidikan dan Pengajaran must maintain independence, impartiality, and confidentiality when handling submitted manuscripts. AI tools must not replace editorial judgment in decisions concerning manuscript screening, peer-review outcomes, acceptance, or rejection.

Editors must not upload confidential manuscripts or unpublished research materials to public or third-party AI systems without appropriate authorization and adequate safeguards for confidentiality and data protection.

All editorial decisions must be based on scholarly merit, relevance to the journal's scope, methodological quality, originality, and compliance with publication ethics.

5. Use of AI by Reviewers

Reviewers are expected to evaluate manuscripts objectively and independently. The use of AI tools must not compromise the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts or the integrity of the peer-review process.

Reviewers must not upload unpublished manuscripts, research data, or confidential review materials to AI platforms without appropriate authorization. AI-generated assessments must not substitute for the reviewer's own critical evaluation, academic expertise, and professional judgment.

Reviewers remain responsible for the accuracy, fairness, and scholarly quality of their review reports.

6. Prohibited Uses of AI

PIJAR: Jurnal Pendidikan dan Pengajaran does not permit the use of AI to facilitate academic misconduct, including:

  1. Fabricating, falsifying, or manipulating research data, findings, or evidence.

  2. Generating fictitious references, citations, or bibliographic information.

  3. Plagiarizing or misappropriating the intellectual contributions of other researchers.

  4. Presenting unverified AI-generated claims as established facts or authentic research findings.

  5. Violating confidentiality, privacy, copyright, or research ethics requirements.

  6. Misrepresenting authorship or concealing substantive AI contributions when disclosure is required.

Suspected violations will be assessed in accordance with the journal's publication ethics procedures and applicable scholarly publishing standards.

7. Verification and Editorial Assessment

The editorial team reserves the right to request clarification regarding the use of AI in a submitted manuscript. Authors may be asked to explain how AI-assisted content was produced, reviewed, and verified.

Where concerns arise, the journal will assess the available evidence and the nature of the alleged violation before determining appropriate editorial action. AI-detection tools, if used, will not be treated as conclusive evidence of misconduct or serve as the sole basis for rejecting a manuscript.

8. Policy Review and Compliance

This policy may be updated to reflect developments in AI technologies, academic publishing practices, and research ethics standards.

By submitting a manuscript to PIJAR: Jurnal Pendidikan dan Pengajaran, authors acknowledge their responsibility to comply with this policy and to ensure that all AI-assisted contributions are handled transparently, ethically, and responsibly.

The journal encourages all authors, editors, and reviewers to uphold academic integrity and maintain the quality and credibility of scholarly communication in education and teaching.
